Born in Lowell, Massachussetts, Bette Davis started her career in the arts in high school as a dancer but became entranced with the idea of becoming an actress after seeing an Ibsen play. She began to pursue her goal after high school in New York, where she made her Broadway debut in 1929. By 1930, she had landed in Hollywood with a three-month contract at Universal.
