Summary: Max Brackett was one of the network's best investigative reporters. But when he refuses to show carnage from an airplane crash, Max loses his temper on air and gets fired. He then moves on to Madeline, California, a much smaller town. But he soon starts itching to get back to the big city. When Max visits the Museum of Natural History with his assitant to do a story, he discovers he's in the midst of a bigger story. Sam Bailey, a former security guard, has been fired because of budget cuts, and he wants his job back. When the museum director refuses to speak to him, Bailey takes out his gun and starts holding children hostage. Max capitalizes on the situation by calling his station to have them cover the story. While Max coaches Sam, millions of viewers watch the story unfold on their television sets.
